A short personal post about my little more odd interest and facination in Astronomy.
Since I was around 5 years old, my passion for astronomy was ignited during travels with my uncle Frank, an amateur astronomer who owned a magnificent old telescope that I also borrowed and staired at the night sky. Our bonding moments on birthdays and special occasions were always spent delving into discussions about the cosmos—exploring planets, comets, and everything in between.
Travel to the Total Solar Eclipse at the Russian border
One significant memory etched in my mind occurred when I was 14 years old. I embarked on an extraordinary journey with my uncle, traversing the roads from the west coast of Sweden, crossing Finland, nearly reaching the Russian border, all for one singular purpose: to behold a total Solar Eclipse. Our destination lay just outside a quaint city named Joensuu in Karelia.
This celestial spectacle defied the norm, lasting far longer than anticipated. Its elongated duration draped the natural world in an eerie hush, rendering the environment silent, from the rustling leaves to the melodies of birds. On that fateful day, it was an intimate gathering – just us and a busload of Japanese spectators, all gathered on a bridge, eagerly anticipating this awe-inspiring phenomenon.
Some interest always last
In school, whenever given the freedom to choose a topic, my heart gravitated towards the vastness of the universe or subjects related to living in harmony with nature. Even today, my nightly routine often involves falling asleep to YouTube documentaries, lectures, The Science Festival to dive into the mysteries that exist beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
This enduring fascination with astronomy and the great outdoors, coupled with an unwavering interest in survival skills, has been an integral part of my life’s journey. These dual passions have seamlessly woven themselves into the fabric of who I am and are set to accompany me throughout my entire lifetime.
